Best time to visit Ravangla:

The best time to visit Ravangla are from March to June and September to November. You get really good mountain views in November and during March, April as well. During rainy season, the roads may get spoilt due to landslides but there will be a lot of greenery. It can get quite cold in the winter months of December, January and February

Ravangla Facts

Ravangla or Rawangla or Ravongla is a small tourist town with an elevation of 8000 feet located in the South Sikkim district of the Indian state of Sikkim. It is connected by state highway to other major towns in the state and lies between Pelling and Gangtok. It is the starting point for the trek to Maenam Wildlife Sanctuary. It is approximately 65 km from the state capital, Gangtok, and 120 km from Siliguri, West Bengal. The name is derived from the Bhutia language. ‘Ra’ means wild sheep, 'vong' translates to a rearing place, and ‘la’ means a pass. Ravangla is at an elevation of 8000ft which means the place is quite gloomy, cold and wet most of the time. Guests should always carry umbrellas and extra set of clothes and shoes. also, always carry insect repellents for insects and leeches. 

How to Reach

Flight
By Air
Ravangla can be easily reached by air by taking a flight to the nearest airport- Bagdogra in Siliguri, West Bengal. The airport is around 129 km away and it takes approximately 4-5 hours to reach from the airport. One can hire a private cab/taxi or can even opt for a shared taxi. The regular flights from the airport connect some of the major cities of India.

By Train
The nearest railway station from Ravangla is the New Jalpaiguri in Siliguri, West Bengal. It is around 122 kilometers from Ravangla. Ravangla is located 68 km from Gangtok and the most convenient way to reach Ravangla is to first come to Gangtok and then from there drive down to Ravangla. The railway station is well connected with the major cities like Kolkatta, Mumbai and New Delhi. From New Jalpaiguri, you can easily get a private taxi to Gangtok and then Ravangla.

By Road
A good network of roads connects Ravangla with the major cities of Sikkim and other destinations of northeast India. One can easily reach Ravangla from the neighbouring places by road. Ravangla is located 68 km from Gangtok and the most convenient way to reach Ravangla is to first come to Gangtok and then from there drive down to Ravangla. Rented taxis and state-run buses are easily available to reach Ravangla.
