History of Tea in Sikkim and The Temi Tea Garden:

Sikkim state has only one tea estate but that’s grown in reputation enough to make it a garden to contend with. The Temi Tea Garden is a Government of Sikkim undertaking, established in the year 1969. It is located in the South Sikkim region of the northeastern Indian state of Sikkim. Before the estate was created, the land was a Sherpa Village with around 10 acres of nurseries of the Forest Department around the Missionary Building which became the office cum residence of Divisional Forest Officer (South & West Division). During British rule this site was a landmark for Scottish missionary buildings in the early 20th century. The buildings were acquired by the Government of Sikkim in 1954. This is the only tea garden in operation in the state. The teas produced here are well-known for their rich aroma and delicate taste. Temi Tea Garden is one of the most charming gardens in North-eastern India. It is considered as the best tea estate around the world as tea is made purely with organic fertilizers and the quality is impeccable, drawing various tourists throughout the year with beautiful Cherry Blossom trees, the pathway leading to this tea field is fascinating and walking towards the fields gives you a delightful experience.
